Welcome to day 11 of my 25 Days of Craftmas series! Today’s project is kind of a fluke. The finished project isn’t at all what I was going for, but I think it still turned out pretty cool.
I’m loving how this Christmas decoration turned it. It’s so natural, but it looks so elegant!
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED
- Large Wood Slice
- Spray Adhesive
- Spray Wood Sealer (Optional)
- Burlap Ribbon
- Vinyl (Color doesn’t matter)
- Transfer Tape
- Electronic cutter (cricut explore, silhouette or other cutter)
- Cut File (available for free in my resource library)
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO
The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project. I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library. These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others. This library is open to everyone and is free! You can access the library here. Look for the file called Merry Christmas. It will either be listed under the Christmas category-25 Days of Craftmas 2018 – Day 11.
Open the design in your cutting software. Size the design to fit on your wood. Mine was about 8″ wide, but that will vary depending on your wood slice. Draw a box around the design to create a stencil. Cut the vinyl, weed out the letters, and then apply the transfer tape.

Remove the vinyl backing and apply it to the wood slice. Rub over the design to help it stick to the wood.
Carefully remove the transfer tape.
Cover any exposed areas of the wood slice. I just lifted up the edge of the vinyl and slid a piece of paper underneath.
Spray the entire design with spray adhesive and let dry for a few minutes.
The spray adhesive tints the wood so it looks like stain.
The wood slice absorbs most of the adhesive so it shouldn’t be very sticky. Within a few days, my wood slice didn’t feel tacky at all. But, if you’re worried about it, you can spray a coat of wood sealer over the top.
Add a burlap bow for a splash of color.
