SVG files, tutorials and more for your electronic cutter.
The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project. I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library. These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others. This library is open to everyone and is free! You can access the library here. Look for the file called Snowman Mug. It will be listed under the category-Craftmas 2020 – Day 8.
Open the design in your software program. Size the design to 11.5″ tall and leave the height proportional. Then, size the snowman face to 2″ tall and leave the height proportional.
When everything is sized correctly, you can cut the design. Cut the hat portion out of black cardstock and the snowman face out of black and orange.
Fold the tabs of the hat along the perforation marks.
Add some glue to the end of the rectangle shape.
Press the two ends together to form a circle and hold in place until the glue has dried.
Now, add some glue onto the tabs.
Place this piece on top of the donut shaped cardstock and hold in place until the glue dries.
Now the hat is done, let’s work on the vinyl. Grab the black and orange vinyl and weed away the excess vinyl.
Cut a piece of transfer tape a little bigger than the design. Place the vinyl on top of the transfer tape. Trim off the excess transfer tape.
Then, rub over it with your scraper.
Pull the vinyl backing off the snowman face.
Position the vinyl on the mug.
Rub with your scraper.
Remove transfer tape.
Repeat with the nose.
Even though Oracal 651 is referred to as permanent vinyl, it can be removed. Sometimes, the heat of the dishwasher combined with the spraying water can cause the vinyl to come off the mug. So, I recommend hand washing these mugs and like to put vinyl on the bottom as a reminder. Then, if I give the mug as a gift, the recipient will know how to care for it.
Place some hot chocolate packets in a cellophane bag and tie with a ribbon.
Glue together some peppermint spoons so the handles cross over each other. If you can’t find these cute spoons, you can also use candy canes or peppermint sticks.
Then, apply some clear adhesive to the top of the mug.
Place the hot chocolate packets in the mug.
Put the hat on the mug. Press the brim of the hat down onto the clear adhesive so it stays in place.
Tie the peppermint spoons onto the top of the cello bag with the ribbon.
Isn’t he cute? What a fun gift to give away!
