HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED
- Wood Sign(I found mine at Dollar Tree)

- Buffalo Plaid Adhesive Vinyl
- Exacto Knife (Optional)
- Application Tool
- Transfer Tape
- Electronic cutter (cricut explore, silhouette or other cutter)
- Cut File (available for free in my resource library)
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO
STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE FREE SVG FILE
The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project. I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library. These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others. This library is open to everyone and is free! You can access the library here. Look for the file called Christmas Sayings. It will either be listed under the Christmas category-25 Days of Craftmas 2019 – Day 14.
STEP 2: REMOVE INNER SQUARE AND TRACE ONTO VINYL
Remove the inner square by slide something thin like a spatula underneath it. Save the little tacks because you’ll need them later. Trace the shape of the squares onto the back of your buffalo plaid vinyl.
Trace the shape of the squares onto the back of your buffalo plaid vinyl.
Then, trim down to size.
Remove the vinyl backing and place the square onto the vinyl.
Use an application tool to smooth it down, then trim the excess vinyl with a craft knife.
STEP 3: PREPARE VINYL DESIGN
Open the design in your software program and size it to fit on your signs. I sized my design to 3″ tall.
When everything is sized correctly, you can cut the design with your Cricut or Silhouette. Once it has finished cutting, weed away the excess vinyl. Use a weeding tool to remove the small pieces. Be super careful around the leaves, they are tiny and can get lost easily.
Cut a piece of transfer tape a little bigger than the design. Place the vinyl on the transfer tape and smooth it down.
Then, trim off the excess transfer tape and cut apart the sayings.
Rub over the design with an application tool to help the vinyl stick to the transfer tape. Then, carefully pull off the vinyl backing.
STEP 4: APPLY DESIGN ONTO WOOD SQUARE
Position the design over the square. You can use a ruler to center it, but I just eyed it. Once everything is centered and straight, press down on the design.
Rub over the design with an application tool.
Then, pull off the transfer tape. Repeat with the other two sayings.
STEP 5: ATTACH WOOD SQUARE BACK ON SIGN
Push the tacks back through the original holes in the small wood sign.
Then, center the small wood square on the larger wood square and use a hammer to tap back into place.
That’s it! These mini Christmas signs are so easy to customize with your Silhouette or Cricut. Seriously, they are so cute!
