Welcome to day 14 of my 25 days of Craftmas series. Today I’m showing you how to make this kraft paper scroll sign for Christmas. I just love how it turned out. I also love that you can use the same concept to create sayings for all different holidays and occasions. Read on for the full tutorial.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE FREE SVG FILE

The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project.  I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library.  These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others.  This library is open to everyone and is free!  You can access the library here. Look for the file called Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas BA2114. It will be listed under the Craftmas 2022 Category-Day 14.

STEP 2: CUT AND WEED VINYL DESIGN

Open the design in your software program and resize it to fit on your piece of kraft paper.  I changed the width to 11.5″ and left the height proportional.

When everything has been sized correctly, you can cut the designs with your Cricut or Silhouette.

Remove the vinyl from your cutting mat and trim off any unused vinyl.

Weed away the excess vinyl from around the design.

Use a weeding tool to pull out the small pieces left inside the letters.

Cut a piece of transfer tape and place it sticky side up on your surface. Rub over the transfer tape with a towel or t-shirt to remove some of the tackiness.  Removing some of the tackiness will prevent the transfer tape from ripping the kraft paper.

Then place the vinyl on top of the transfer tape and smooth it down.

Rub over the design firmly with your scraper tool.

Then, trim off the excess transfer tape and vinyl backing.

STEP 3: APPLY VINYL TO THE KRAFT PAPER

Cut your kraft paper to the desired length.  I cut mine down to 15″ x 48″.  You’ll want to roll up the ends equally so just the middle portion of the kraft paper is flat on your work surface.  You’ll probably need to use some objects to keep the paper from rolling up completely.  It’s also helpful to put a ruler across the paper to help you center the vinyl.

Grab the vinyl design and pull off the vinyl backing.

Position the design in the center of the paper.

Rub over the design with your scraper.

Carefully pull off the transfer tape.

STEP 4: ASSEMBLE THE SIGN

Glue an 18″ wooden dowel to the top and bottom of the Kraft paper.  It should hang over the paper about 1 1/2″ on each side.

Roll up the paper so it’s about 5″ above the vinyl design and glue it in place.  Then, do the same with the bottom of the paper roll.

Cut a long piece of rope and tie each end of the top dowel so you can hang the sign.

Drape some Christmas garland around the top of the sign

and glue it in place.

And that’s all there is to it, you’re sign is finished!
