This week I’ve been sharing some quick and easy Mother’s Day gift ideas you can make with your Silhouette or Cricut. Since Mother’s Day is tomorrow, I thought I’d end the week with one of the easiest projects you can make…a cute vinyl sign. You can make your own sign blank if you want. But, if you want to avoid cutting, sanding, and painting, then you can purchase a premade sign blank. I found two premade blanks in my stash and created these two cute designs that are perfect for Mother’s Day.
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED
- Wood Sign Blank (I found mine at Walmart and JoAnn)
- Vinyl (I used black and white)
- Transfer Tape
- Application Tool
- Weeding Tool
- Electronic cutter (cricut explore, silhouette or other cutter)
- Cut File (available for free in my resource library)
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO
Start by measuring the dimensions of your sign blank to determine how big to make your design. I usually make the design between 1/2″-1″ smaller than my sign. After everything is sized correctly, cut out the vinyl with your cutting machine and weed away the excess vinyl.
Use a weeding tool to remove the centers of the letters.
Cut a piece of transfer tape a little bigger than the design and place over the vinyl. Rub over the design to help it stick to the transfer tape.
Use an application tool and rub over the letters.
Cut off the excess transfer tape.
Flip the design over and carefully pull off the vinyl backing.
Place the design on the sign blank and center. Rub over the letters again.
Then, pull off the transfer tape and your sign is done. Seriously, who wouldn’t love to get a sign like this from a child or anyone?!?
