Welcome to Day 17 of my 25 days of Craftmas series! Today, I’m showing how to make this super cute, super easy Christmas garden flag with your Cricut or Silhouette. Seriously, this is one of the easiest projects I’ve shared during the Craftmas series. The glitter HTV is so pretty and looks amazing when the sun is shining on it. I wish the pictures would capture the sparkle a little better. HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE FREE SVG FILE

The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project.  I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library.  These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others.  This library is open to everyone and is free! You can access the library here. Look for the file called Merry Christmas with Trees. It will either be under the most recent projects/cut files or under the Christmas category-25 Days of Craftmas 2019 – Day 17. If you’re using glitter HTV, you’ll want to open the knockout version of the design.

STEP 2: PREPARE THE VINYL DESIGN

Open the design in your software program and size it to fit on your garden flag. The flag I used is 12″ x 18″, so I sized the design to be about 11.5″ wide. Before you send the designs to your machine to cut, be sure to mirror everything.

When everything is sized correctly, you can cut the stencil with your Cricut or Silhouette.  Once it has finished cutting, weed away the excess vinyl. Remember the design should be mirrored, so the words will look backward as you’re weeding.

Once everything weeded, line up the two layers of trees. Put the lighter green trees on top.

STEP 3: PRESS THE HTV ONTO THE FLAG

Position the design onto a blank garden flag (you can get them here). Use a ruler to make sure everything is straight and centered.

Hold down the dark green layer of trees and carefully pull off the light green layer. Make sure that the dark green layer doesn’t shift.

Use an iron, heat press, or easy press and apply firm pressure to the dark green trees.  Follow the manufacturer’s directions for heat and time. I pressed mine for 15 seconds at 320 degrees.

Then, pull off the clear carrier sheet.

Repeat with the red glitter HTV

Now, place the light green on the flag. Match up the little notches of the dark green trees with the points of the light green trees.

Once everything is lined up, cover the glitter HTV with a teflon sheet or something similar and press it into place.

Then, pull off the clear carrier sheet.

It’s so pretty! Since the camera doesn’t capture the sparkle, you’ll have to make one yourself just to see how gorgeous it is!
