HERE’S WHAT YOU DO
STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE FREE SVG FILE
The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project. I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library. These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others. This library is open to everyone and is free! You can access the library here. Look for the file called Christmas Tree Shaker Box BA2411. It will be listed under the Craftmas 2024 Category-Day 11.
STEP 2: CUT THE PIECES
Open the design in your cutting software and resize it to 11.5″ wide, let the height adjust proportionally. This makes a box that is about 4″ x 3.5″ x 1.5″. The top and bottom of the box have perforation lines that will be cut with a regular blade. If you’re using Cricut Design Space, ungroup the design. Then, you’ll need to attach the perforation lines to the shape behind it. Once everything is sized correctly, cut out the pieces with your Cricut or Silhouette. The green pieces should be cut out of cardstock, the black diamond shape should be cut out of clear acetate.
Once the cardstock is finished cutting, remove it from the cutting mat. It’s best to flip over the mat and gently bend it over until the cardstock releases. This way, the cardstock shouldn’t get bent.
STEP 3: ASSEMBLE THE SHAKER BOX
Fold along all the perforation lines.
Add glue around the edge of the acetate diamond shape. If your acetate has a clear protective film, be sure to remove it before gluing.
Place the clear diamond over the cutout tree of the cardstock. Make sure it doesn’t go over any of the perforation lines.
Next, add double-sided foam tape to the perimeter of the diamond shaped cardstock piece. Make sure all the corners touch so the confetti can’t get out. Pull the adhesive backing off the double-sided tape and repeat, so there are two layers of tape.
Place confetti or glitter on the center of acetate.
Pull the adhesive backing off the double-sided tape. Match up the edges of the diamond shaped cardstock with the acetate and press down.
Add glue to the tabs.
Press the tabs against the sides until you have formed the lid.
Repeat the steps for the bottom of the box.
Fill the box up with small treats or toys and this box is finished!
