Welcome to day 16 of my 25 days of Craftmas series. Today, I’m showing you how to make these cute Penguin Dome Candy Holders.  These candy holders are great for holiday favors.  They would also make adorable place cards at a Christmas table.  They are easy to make and I’m excited to show you how.  Read on for the full tutorial!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE FREE SVG FILE

The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project.  I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library.  These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others.  This library is open to everyone and is free!  You can access the library here. Look for the file called Penguin Dome Candy Holder BA2316. It will be listed under the Craftmas 2023 Category-Day 16.

STEP 2: CUT THE CARDSTOCK PIECES

Open the design in your cutting software and resize it to 8.15″ tall. Once everything is sized correctly, cut out the pieces with your Cricut or Silhouette.

Once the cardstock is finished cutting, remove it from the cutting mat. It’s best to flip over the mat and gently bend it over until the cardstock releases. This way, the cardstock shouldn’t get bent.

STEP 3: ASSEMBLE THE CANDY HOLDER

Start by gluing the white piece onto the black penguin shape with the hole cutout. Match up the edges of the cutout circle.

Next, glue on the hat.

Glue the brim and white circle onto the hat.

Next, glue on the scarf.  Match the cutout of the scarf with the top of the circle cutout

Glue on the beak and the feet.

Finish off the body by gluing on the eyes.

STEP 4: ATTACH THE DOME

Grab half of a 3.15″ clear plastic fillable ornament.

Place the penguin over the ornament.

Slide the cardstock down around the ornament.

The ornament should stick out the back just a tiny bit.

Fill the ornament with some holiday treats.

Add hot glue all around the edge of the ornament.

Put the solid penguin shape over the back of the ornament and match up all the edges.

Flip the penguin over and add some glue between the two layers.

Press the two layers together.

Repeat this step all around the penguin until all the edges are glued together.  It’s a little tricky to glue the edges right around the ornament because the top layer isn’t flat.  You can use hot glue if liquid glue won’t hold the pieces together.

And that’s it! This project is finished.  Look at that cute penguin!
