Welcome to day 19 of my 25 Days of Craftmas series! Today I’m showing you how this super cute, super easy reindeer pillow using Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) I love using HTV on projects. It’s easy to use and easy to weed. I also think you can cut more detailed designs with HTV than regular adhesive vinyl. And the finished products look so professional every single time!
This pillow turned out so cute. I love how the little scarf adds a bit of dimension to the pillow. I used a premade pillow cover so this project only took about 15 minutes to make. Don’t you love projects like that?
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED
- Pillow Cover
- Pillow Form
- Printed HTV Vinyl
- Scarf and Embellisments
- Hot glue gun
- Iron or Heat Press
- Transfer Tape
- Electronic cutter (cricut explore, silhouette or other cutter)
- Cut File (available for free in my resource library)
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO
The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project. I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library. These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others. This library is open to everyone and is free! You can access the library here. Look for the file called Reindeer Silhouette. It will either be listed under the Christmas category-25 Days of Craftmas 2018 – Day 19.
Start by opening the design in your software cutting program. I used an 18″ pillow, so I sized my design to 11.5″ x 14.9″. When you’re using HTV, be sure to mirror the design before you send it to cut on your machine. Luckily with this design, it can be cut either way. But when you have a design with words, you need to mirror. Weed away the excess vinyl and position the design on your pillow.
Once you’ve got your design in place, use an iron or heat press to press into place. I finally pulled out my Cricut Easy Press to use on this project and I thought it worked great. For this HTV, I pressed each area of the design for about 15 seconds at 305 degrees.
Once you’ve pressed the entire design, remove the carrier sheet.
Glue the edges of a scarf on the outside of the neck so you can tie it together. There are lots of things you could use for a scarf. I used a black fluffy sock and just cut it into strips. You could crochet or knit a mini scar. You could also use thick yarn and braid it.
Add some berries, mini bells, and/or pine branches to the scarf to finish it off.
Then, insert your pillow and find a cute place to display it.
