HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE FREE SVG FILE

The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project.  I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library.  These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others. This library is open to everyone and is free!  You can access the library here. Look for the file called Merry Christmas BA2416. It will be listed under the Craftmas 2024 Category-Day 16.

STEP 2: CUT AND WEED VINYL DESIGN

Open the design in your software program and resize it to fit your small piece of wood. My rolling pin measures about 2.25″ high, so I resized the design to be about 1.75″ tall. When everything has been sized correctly, you can cut the designs with your Cricut or Silhouette.

Remove the vinyl from your cutting mat and trim off any unused vinyl.  Weed away the excess vinyl from around the design.

Use the weeding tool to help remove the excess vinyl from inside the letters.

Cut a piece of transfer tape and place it sticky side up on your surface. Then place the vinyl on top of the transfer tape and smooth it down.

Rub over the design firmly with your scraper tool.

Then, trim off the excess transfer tape and vinyl backing.

STEP 3: PAINT THE WOOD SIGN

Next, we’re going to work on the wood rolling pin. I found this fall rolling pin from Dollar Tree.  It was cute, but I thought it needed a Christmas makeover.  If you can’t find this exact rolling pin, here is a similar rolling pin from Hobby Lobby.

Start by sanding off the letters.  They are glitter, so they can’t be painted over.

Next, tape around the handles and paint the rest of the wood red.  You’ll probably need a few coats.

When the red paint is dry, remove the painter’s tape and tape off the rolling pin.  Then, paint the handles white.  Once again, you’ll probably need a few coats.  When the paint is dry, you can remove the painter’s tape.

STEP 4: FINISH THE SIGN

Grab the vinyl design and remove the vinyl backing.

Center the design on the rolling pin.

Rub over the design with your scraper.

Then, carefully pull off the transfer tape.

To finish off the sign, glue a small ribbon bow on the handle.  For added dimension, you can glue another twine bow over the top of the ribbon bow.

And that’s it, this project is complete.
