- Wood Cutting Board (I found mine at Dollar Tree)
- Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Weeding Tool & Scraper
- Paint & Brush
- Painter’s Tape
- Ribbon
- Glue
- Christmas Embellishments
- Electronic cutter (cricut explore or maker, silhouette or other cutter)

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO
STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE FREE SVG FILE
The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project. I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library. These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others. This library is open to everyone and is free! You can access the library here. Look for the file called Eat Drink and Be Merry BA2420. It will be listed under the Craftmas 2024 Category-Day 20.
STEP 2: CUT AND WEED VINYL DESIGN
Open the design in your software program and resize it to fit your wood sign. When everything has been sized correctly, you can cut the designs with your Cricut or Silhouette.
Remove the vinyl from your cutting mat and trim off any unused vinyl. Weed away the excess vinyl from around the design.
Use the weeding tool to help remove the excess vinyl from inside the letters.
Cut a piece of transfer tape and place it sticky side up on your surface. Then place the vinyl on top of the transfer tape and smooth it down.
Rub over the design firmly with your scraper tool.
Then, trim off the excess transfer tape and vinyl backing.
STEP 3: PAINT THE CUTTING BOARD
Next, we’re going to work on the wood cutting board. I found this one at Dollar Tree. It was cute, but I thought it needed a Christmas makeover.
Start by adding painter’s tape right above the top letter.
Then, paint below the painter’s tape. You’ll need to do several coats to cover the printed design. Once the paint is dry, remove the painter’s tape.
STEP 4: FINISH THE CUTTING BOARD
Grab the vinyl design and remove the vinyl backing.
Center the design from right to left on the sign and about an inch or so up from the bottom.
Rub over the design with your scraper.
Then, carefully pull off the transfer tape.
Wrap some ribbon around the cutting board, where the paint meets the wood.
Glue the ends of the ribbon to the back of the cutting board.
Untie the twine bow. Glue some decorative Christmas embellishments over the twine on the handle.
Retie the twine bow.
And that’s it, this makeover is complete! I love how this turned out!
