Welcome to day 23 of my 25 days of Craftmas series. Today, I’m showing you how to make these fun Christmas Ornament Cookie Boxes.  The boxes are easy to make and look so cute.  The bottom of the box is made with kraft board so it makes this box really sturdy.  That means it’s great for heavier items like Christmas cookies and more!  The cutout on top gives a sneak peek at the goodies that are hidden inside!  I’m excited to show you how to make your own. Read on for the full tutorial!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE FREE SVG FILE

The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project.  I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library.  These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others.  This library is open to everyone and is free!  You can access the library here. Look for the file called Christmas Ornament Cookie Box BA2323. It will be listed under the Craftmas 2023 Category-Day 23.

STEP 2: CUT THE ACETATE AND CARDSTOCK PIECES

Open the design in your cutting software and resize it to 11″ wide.  This makes a box that is about 6″ x 6″ x 2.5″.  That’s a big box that holds lots of cookies!  The box and lid both have perforation lines that will be cut with a regular blade.  If you’re using Cricut Design Space, you’ll need to attach the perforation lines to the shape behind it. The bottom should be cut out of kraftboard and the black rectangle should be cut out of clear acetate or something similar.  Everything else should be cut out of cardstock.  Once everything is sized correctly, cut out the pieces with your Cricut or Silhouette.

Once the cardstock is finished cutting, remove it from the cutting mat. It’s best to flip over the mat and gently bend it over until the cardstock releases. This way, the cardstock shouldn’t get bent.

STEP 3: ASSEMBLE THE BOX BOTTOM

Grab the bottom of the box and fold along all perforation lines.

Add glue to one of the tabs.

Bring the two sides of the box together.

Press the tab against the side of the box.

Make sure the edges line up.

Repeat with all the sides

Now, the bottom of the box is done.

STEP 4: ASSEMBLE THE BOX TOP

Add glue around the perimeter of the acetate.  If your acetate has a clear protective cover, but sure to remove that before adding the glue.

Place the acetate over the circle.  But sure the edges of the acetate don’t go over any of the perforation lines.

Notice the circle cutout isn’t centered on the lid.  The edge that is closest to the bottom is the bottom of the box.

Brush some ink onto the edges of the berries.

This step is optional, but it adds some dimension to the berries.

Glue the lighter green leaves onto the darker green leaves.

Also, glue on the top of the ornament.

Add some glue to the back of the ornament and glue it over the circle cutout.

Then, glue on the leaves and berries.

Now, fold along the perforation lines and put the lid together the same way you put the bottom together.

The lid should slide right over the bottom of the box.

Use the cutouts for your fingers to pull the lid off.

Now, go fill up your box with some Christmas goodies and share them with someone special!
