This is a cute project that’s kind-of along the theme of back to school, but this decoration can stay up all year long. It’s perfect for a playroom, reading nook, or even a library.

I used 3 – 5.25″ x 5.25″ blocks of wood and chose three colors that match our playroom.  For the base coat (the color of the alphabet letters), I mixed 1 part colored paint with 1 part white paint and then painted the top of my board.

Once that was dry, I added the letters I cut out of vinyl. For a minute, I wondered if I should just stop at this point.  It would be a totally cute project with three alphabet blocks like this!
But, I decided to go with my original plan. I painted over the top and sides with the original paint color (not the paint mixed with white).
When that was dry, I carefully peeled up the letters and was left with this.
Then, I added a wood cabinet knob I had painted and also the white vinyl word at the bottom.
I tied some cute white ribbons around the knob and then repeated all those steps with the other two blocks.
And now, I have a great little decoration for our playroom.

  1. I LOVE your blocks! They are so fun. I really like the way you put the alphabet behind and the words on top! Thank you for sharing.
