The laundry room is probably one of the most unorganized rooms in the house.  It’s probably the least decorated as well.  So, I have decided to focus my organizing efforts on the laundry. But, instead of actually doing any organizing, I spent my day creating a stencil to make this cute laundry sign! If you have a Cricut or Silhouette or other electronic cutter, you can make one, too!

Here’s what you need:

– Wood Strips
Vinyl for stencil
– Paint
– Pennies (optional)
– Electronic cutter (cricut explore, silhouette or other cutter)
– Wood Glue
– Cut File (I used this one)

Here is what you do:

I found these pieces of wood from Home Depot. They come as strips that are about 1.5″ x 4′ and are around .50. They are a little rough, lightweight and perfect for a distressed sign. Cut 5 strips to about 16″ and 2 strips almost 8″.

Use pennies to created small even gaps between the strips.

Glue the smaller strips on top.

Paint the sign the color of your choice.  While that is drying, use your electronic cutter to cut out a stencil.  Weed away the excess vinyl and use transfer tape to apply your design to the wood.  Paint over the stencil, you can see how I use vinyl stencils in this tutorial. After the paint has dried, remove the vinyl stencil and sand lightly.

    Pinning for future reference!
Also, can I ask you what do you use to cut the wood in "stripes"?

  2. Your sign looks fantastic and I love that the hanger IS a hanger 🙂

I'm so excited to try out the freebie because I have a Silhouette and have used it to make several signs already. So fun!

  5. I love it! If I actually had a ROOM for my laundry, I would definitely make one for myself. Sadly, I just have a little corner "nook" for my laundry and no room for a pretty sign.

  6. SO cute!! Maybe that would make doing laundry easier if I had a sweet sign to look at–at least it would distract me from what I was supposed to be doing:)

  7. Hi from Handy Man, Crafty woman. I was having techncial difficulties when my link party first started, your project photo is blurry. You may want to go back and add this project again, sorry about that. I'll watch for it, and I'll delete the blurry one after you add the new one. sorry for the inconvenience!

  8. Thanks so much for sharing this at Handmade Tuesdays. I redecorated our laundry room last summer, and I'm currently adding to a gallery wall in it. I might make this. I wonder if paint sticks would work for a smaller version.
