I don’t usually do potpourri, but last year my daughter decided we needed to change that. So, we made up a mixture of stovetop potpourri.  I loved how it made my house smell. I loved it so much, I decided it would make a great gift for friends, neighbors, and teachers.  I wanted to create a nice way to gift it, so I set out to find some supplies that would make this gift extra cute.  I LOVE how it turned out. Not only is it gorgeous to look at, but it also smells amazing. This has turned out to be my most favorite gift to make and give away!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO
The first thing you’ll need to do is get the free SVG file you’ll use for this project.  I keep all the SVG files I use for the projects I make in my SVG Library.  These SVG files work with Cricut and Silhouette machines, as well as many others.  This library is open to everyone and is free! You can access the library here.  Look for a design called Merry Christmas.  It will be listed under the Christmas category and next to a link to this tutorial.

To make the jars, you’ll first add about 1 oz of spice mix to the mason jar.  If you don’t want to use the spice mix, you could just use some whole cloves. Then, place 4-5 cinnamon sticks on top of the spice mix (you might need to break or cut them to fit).  Next, add some cranberries (about 2 oz) until the jar is about half full.  Cut some pine leaves so they’ll fit in the jar and layer 4-5 on top of the cranberries.  Finish off the jar by placing a few dried orange slices over the pine leaves.  I used the small oranges (called Clementines at my grocery store), they were the perfect size.  I wanted thin, even slices, so I cut the orange with a mandoline slicer, Then, I used a food dehydrator to dry them.

If you want to add directions on how to use the potpourri, you can print them out and put them under the lid.  I found a free printable here.
Cut the vinyl saying with your electronic cutter.  I cut mine about 3″ wide. There are little dots in the design, but at this size, most were lost during the cutting, so I just left them off. After the design is cut, weed away the excess vinyl and use transfer tape to apply the vinyl to the jar.  I used silver etched glass vinyl. It was a little bit tricky to get the transfer tape to pick up the vinyl, but the end result is worth it.  It looks so pretty on the jar. If you don’t have the etched vinyl, you could also use white, black, or red.
Finally, tie some raffia around the top of the jar and this gift is ready to go!
