Once you’re the owner of a Silhouette or Cricut cutting machine, you’ll find yourself looking for all kinds of things to personalize with vinyl. We usually refer to the items we apply the vinyl to as a “blank”.  Blanks can be anything from wooden signs, pillows, and tumblers to mugs, keychains, and even walls. These blanks are great for making personalized items, gifts, or even items to sell. Some blanks you can make on your own. like wooden signs or pillow covers. But, most blanks, you’ll want to purchase and just add your vinyl design.

Once you start creating with your cutter, you’ll find it’s nice to have a little stash of blanks.  When you have a few extras on hand, you can easily whip up last minute gifts or projects in no time. So, I thought it would be helpful to put together a list of some of my favorite crafting blanks and where I purchase them.

Craft Blanks for Vinyl Projects

Wood Signs & Frames: I love to make signs! I’ve found a good selection of wood signs and frames at JoAnn and Hobby Lobby.  If you don’t have any of those stores close by, you can also find some on Amazon.

Stretched Canvas: I like to buy stretched canvases in bulk from Amazon because of their quick shipping. But, Michaels and JoAnn also carry them and you can get them for a great price if you use a discount coupon.

Mugs: My favorite place to find blank mugs is Dollar Tree.  They usually have a good variety of sizes and colors and for $1/mug it’s a great deal.

Dish Towels: These kitchen towels are from Amazon. I like that they are a little heavier weight.  They are perfect for both HTV and stenciling

Canvas Tote Bags: I usually get single tote bags from Michaels or JoAnn.

Pillow Covers: There are so many different places to get pillow covers, but I tend to get my mine from Amazon.  I love the selection and the 2-day shipping can’t be beat!

Tumblers/Cups/Water Bottles.  There are so many places to buy tumblers, cups, and water bottles.  Amazon and Save a Cup both offer a great selection of styles, shapes, and colors.

T-shirts: I usually get my t-shirts from Walmart.  I can almost always find the color & size I need and they are only a couple of bucks.  If you want to make lots of shirts, Jiffy Shirts has a huge selection with great prices.

Keychains: Amazon has a huge selection of keychain blanks in all shapes and sizes.

There are also countless other crafting blanks you can customize with vinyl.  Canisters, storage containers, cuttings boards, chalkboards, clipboards, zipper pouches, stuffed animals, hats, and so much more.  Really, the list is endless!  That’s why I LOVE vinyl so much. You can add a personal touch to just about anything.
